About

Luminaria is built on the idea that artists deserve support throughout the creative process.

Together, we create space to observe and tend to the emotional and physical process of being creative.

We accept our creativity as an undeniable part of ourselves, a part that needs our compassionate attention and embodied wisdom.

We identify and develop individualized tools to become intentional participants in the necessary rhythms and cycles of the creative process.

We embrace change and our ability to adapt to change as part of our inheritance as creative people.

The goal of Luminaria is to create strong and sustainable relationships with our artist selves, our communities, and the spaces in which we practice our art.

Origins of the word luminaria

Luminaria comes from the Spanish word for luminary, a natural glowing body of light, especially the sun or the moon.

A traditional luminaria is a lantern made of a candle placed inside a paper bag or jar. Dozens, to hundreds, to thousands of luminarias are lovingly arranged to illuminate dark pathways at night. Luminarias are used in times of grief, as well as in celebration.

The image of luminaria providing a warm glow of light in the dark night speaks to me as an artist navigating times of uncertainty and rapid change.
